3 Considerations for Choosing the Best Pool Size

Publication date : Friday, October 9th, 2020

Before you decide on your swimming pool design in Jackson, you must consider the size of your pool. Today’s swimming pools can be made in just about any size. That said, there are standard pool sizes that people go with because they are practical and affordable. So if you’re not sure where to start, we recommend going off what’s popular.

For example, most rectangular pools are about twice as long on one side as they are on the other, with average depths of around 5 feet. Typical swimming pool dimensions are 10×20, 15×30 and 20×40.

Now that you know what average pool sizes are, let’s look at three considerations when determining the best size for you.

1. How do you plan on using your inground pool in Mississippi?

Consider how you plan to use your swimming pool. If you intend to lay out and take a dip in the pool to cool off, you don’t need anything large. On the other hand, if you’ll be swimming laps and exercising, you’ll need more space to do these things.

Interested in a diving board? You’ll definitely need something deeper and larger. You don’t want to risk someone diving into a wall. Because of the risks associated with diving boards, your village may have other laws to follow as well.

2. Who will be using your swimming pool?

The next consideration is who will be using your swimming pool. If you have kids, you may want to incorporate a shallow wading area where they can splash around. Beach entries are also great for kids so they can enter and exit easily on their own. Keep in mind that pools like these have slopes and generally require larger sizes.

In addition to who will be using your pool, think about how many people will be swimming on a given day. If it’s just you, your spouse and your child, you don’t need anything excessive. But if you have multiple children or a large extended family, you’ll need a larger pool to accommodate everyone.

Another tip: Plan ahead. Your pool will be around for a long time, so if your kids will be leaving for a college in a couple of years, you may want to scale back in size. On the other hand, if you have very small children, they’ll probably grow up spending their summers in the pool.

3. What limitations do you have?

Lastly, consider the practical elements of installing a swimming pool. How big is your yard? How much room do you have for a swimming pool? What is your budget?

If you have a small or oddly shaped yard, you may have no choice but to go with something small. If you’re on a strict budget or don’t have a lot of time for maintenance, you may also want to stick with a modest sized pool. Once the newness of having a pool wears off, you want to be happy with how it looks and comfortable with the maintenance you need to provide.
