A lap pool is a type of swimming pool designed specifically for fitness and health purposes. We recommend them for narrow residential lots in which the homeowner wants a place where they can swim and get exercise. And, these petite inground pools look beautiful under the Mississippi sunset!
If you’re considering building a lap pool for exercise and fitness, be sure to keep these tips in mind.
Length
There is no one “right” length for a lap pool. You need just enough length to get a good stroke going for each lap, but that’s about it. Most lap pools are around 82 feet, but the length you choose is up to you and the size of your yard. At Paradise Pools, we often build lap pools that are just 30 or 40 feet in length!
Width
Traditional lap pools are around 10 feet wide, but again, you’ll have to choose a width that fits within your space. The thing about lap pools is that you don’t want to go too narrow, otherwise there will be a lot of turbulence.
Depth
If you plan on diving into your inground pool in Mississippi, you’ll need a depth of at least 8 feet. Also, the deeper the water, the less turbulent it will be, which is good for your workouts. If you don’t plan on diving into the lap pool, a good depth is between 4 and 6 feet.
Swimming Machines
If your yard isn’t conducive to a long lap pool, consider a regular swimming pool with a swimming machine pump. These pumps produce a current so that swimmers can remain in place. To make it work, you’ll likely need an above-ground pool so that you can access the equipment.
Benefits
As residential lots get smaller, our pool contractors in Jackson are getting more requests for smaller pool designs. Not only can you use these pools for swimming but walking as well. The water adds resistance to your walk, giving you a better workout. Lap pools are also beneficial for rehabbing after an injury.
These are some of the considerations to make when designing the perfect lap pool. If you’re ready to start planning for your swimming pool, contact Paradise Pools today.
