Top 6 FAQs about Pool Remodeling

Publication date : Saturday, January 18th, 2020

Are you thinking about remodeling your swimming pool? This is an excellent way to breathe new life into your pool and your backyard in general. But, there are some considerations you’ll have to make. For example, what are your goals for your newly renovated pool? Do you plan on updating the tile and plaster, or are you thinking bigger, such as a new deck and plumbing equipment?

The first step in a pool remodel project is to contact a qualified pool contractor like Paradise Pools. You can discuss your goals and objectives, as well as a reasonable cost and timeframe for the project. Below are the top FAQs we hear from our clients. Hopefully you will have a few of your questions answered, too!

1. How long does a pool remodel take?

The length of a pool remodel depends on what you are having done. If you plan on replacing the coping, tile and plaster, you can expect a turnaround time of about two weeks. However, if you have a bigger vision that includes new plumbing and equipment, the project could take several weeks or longer.

2. What are the most popular features added during a remodel?

Generally speaking, most pool owners choose simple but effective updates during a remodel. These updates increase their home’s value and make their pool more functional and enjoyable. Some of the most commonly requested features are:

  • New lighting systems
  • Safety features like handrails
  • Relaxing features like waterfalls, fountains and rock formations
  • Hot tubs and spas
  • Outdoor kitchens and fire pits
  • Walk-in beach entries
  • Water spraying features for the kids
  • Drink bar with sunk-in seating
  • Swimming pool slides
  • Energy efficient pool equipment

3. Can I move my pool pump and filter during a remodel?

Absolutely. In fact, a pool remodel is the perfect time to do this. We recommend putting your pump and filter in a place where it won’t be seen and heard but is still easily accessible.

4. Is it possible to change the shape of my pool?

You can change the shape of your pool, but this will add significant time and cost onto your remodel. That said, this change may be worth it if you’re looking to transform your backyard or take advantage of a new look like the popular figure 8 or kidney-shaped pool.

5. Can I change the depth of my swimming pool?

It is possible to change the depth of your swimming pool, though you will have to get a new pool liner or pool finish to make this change. You can make your pool deeper or shallower depending on your needs.

6. I have a gunite pool. Can I change it into a vinyl liner pool?

Yes you can! A qualified pool contractor like Paradise Pools will send someone out to measure your pool, including the wall height, angle of slope and depth. Accurate measurements are crucial. Then, we will order the proper materials to make this transition.

How to Refresh Your Swimming Pool on a Budget

Publication date : Monday, June 25th, 2018

Remodeling your swimming pool doesn’t have to be a huge investment. While most pool owners would love to do a complete overhaul, it’s not in the budget for most. Luckily, there are dozens of ways you can give your swimming pool a new look without dipping too far into your bank account. Remember, you don’t have to do everything in one season. Take your time making the updates, and take advantage of sale prices that happen in the fall.

Here are a few ways to remodel your pool on a budget.

LED Lighting

Nothing brings a new look to something like the right lighting. It’s fast and affordable to install, and you can customize the look to your exact liking. Choose simple, sophisticated white lights or opt for color changing lights that feature fun colors like pink, green and blue. We recommend LED lights because they are efficient and you can put on a light show for your summer parties.

Waterline Tile

Waterline tile can give your inground pool an entirely new look, and the upgrade is usually under $1,000 for an average size pool. Ceramic tiles are most economical, but if you wanted to push the limits, you could consider glass and other decorative tiles. Waterline tile is best installed when resurfacing your pool.

Tanning Ledges

Tanning ledges, or baja steps, are large, flat surfaces inside the pool. They are popping up in resorts because they provide a refreshing spot to place a lounge chair, but they make great additions to personal pools as well. Like new waterline tile, this is a project that’s not worth making unless you’re planning on resurfacing your pool. This way, everything can match.

Water Features

For a quick and easy revamp that doesn’t require resurfacing, aim for water features. Some are more expensive than others, so let your budget lead the way. If you’re looking for something fun and inexpensive, try bubblers with LED lights or light streamers. Other options include rock waterfalls, water bowls, deck jets and wall streams. The possibilities are endless!

Plants and Shrubs

Sometimes, it’s what’s around your pool that needs the most attention. If your pool is bare, add some beauty and privacy by planting the right shrubs. Agave, aloe and yucca require little maintenance and have few debris. Plus, they love the heat and grow in full sun.

Furniture and Grill

Is it time for new outdoor furniture or a grill like The Big Green Egg? One of the best ways to get more from your pool is by making your outdoor space functional. A new fire pit, grill and outdoor seating instantly transforms your patio into a backyard retreat. A few other touches include hooks to hang towels and a storage bench to keep pool toys.

You don’t have to spend a small fortune to dress up your swimming pool. A few simple changes can make a difference in how your pool looks and the way you use it.

Signs You Need a Pool Remodel

If you’re unhappy with the way that your swimming pool looks, or if you feel that it’s lacking some pizzazz, it’s probably a good candidate for a remodel. Remodeling your swimming pool gives it new life and helps you enjoy your investment more. You can also make decisions that will keep you happy in the long run, such as by adding energy-efficient or child-friendly features.

If you’re still unsure if whether or not your swimming pool can benefit from a new look and feel, here are some signs to pay attention to.

Cosmetic Flaws

Though cosmetic flaws don’t affect the functioning of the pool, they are unsightly and take away from your enjoyment. It’s hard to have fun in a pool with cracked tiles or loose fixtures, and you certainly won’t want to invite anyone over for a swim.

A pool remodel will take care of the eyesores and make your investment a wonderful place to be again! A remodel also increases the value of your home and makes it more attractive to prospective buyers, which is important if you plan on selling your home in the near future.

Safety Concerns

Another issue that indicates the need for a remodel is outdated safety features. Safety is always most important when owning a swimming pool, and you would never want something to compromise your ability to keep your yard safe.

Issues such as loose railings, broken decking, improper balancing of chemicals and inappropriate barriers are all things that can be addressed during a remodel. Once the project is complete, you can invite friends and family over for a swim with the utmost confidence.

Energy Consumption

Swimming pools aren’t exactly the best energy savers. They consume a lot of energy and require a lot of water, so owning one will increase your utility bills to some degree. However, if you’ve noticed a spike in your utility bills and you’ve cancelled out other possibilities, it’s likely that your pool is to blame.

A pool requires many parts to keep it working, and these parts have to work harder if they aren’t at their best levels. This requires more energy, and therefore, raises your utility bills. You end up paying more money for harder-working equipment and your pool still isn’t as clean as it could be.

Energy-efficient features are available to cut down on energy consumption. A few of the best include variable speed pumps, heat or solar pumps and cartridge filters.

We will listen to your wants and needs and address budget concerns from the start. The finished product will be a swimming pool that has everything you want for a price you can afford!

4 Reasons to Remodel Your Inground Pool

Publication date : Thursday, September 29th, 2016

47441509 - beautiful house, swimming pool view from the veranda, summer dayMost pool owners don’t need convincing that it’s time to remodel their inground pools. What stands in their way is the cost of the project and the chaos it can bring.

Many remodeling projects will put your swimming pool out of commission, and it can bring a mess to your backyard. That’s why considering a project of this sort in the spring or summer doesn’t make sense. Why have your pool under construction during the months that you should be enjoying it?

With this in mind, NOW is the time to consider a pool remodel. The kids are back at school and most people have either closed their pools or will be doing so soon. While it’s true that your backyard might be out of sorts, it’s a lot easier to handle this now than in the spring or summer. And just imagine: come next year, you will have a brand new spa to enjoy!

Let’s look at some reasons why you might finally be ready for that pool remodel.

  1. You Have Wandering Eyes

If your eyes have been falling in love with your neighbors’ pools, the pools you see in magazines or the displays at the stores, it’s definitely time for some change. Perhaps you’ve seen a beautiful new tile and you want to resurface your pool. Maybe you want to take advantage of the new features that are out there. Either way, your wandering eyes are telling you that you’re not satisfied with what you have at home.

  1. Your Pool Needs Upgrades

If you’ve had your inground pool for some time now, it probably lacks in the latest features. Luckily, there are many things you can add to upgrade your pool and get it looking more trendy. Water features such as waterfalls, fountain bubblers, water slides and rock walls add instant appeal. You might even want to expand your area by adding a hot tub or lighting features.

  1. Your Pool Needs a Fresh Look

Perhaps your pool has had some new features added to it over the years, but the structure itself needs some refreshing. There are tons of choices of finish such as tile, plaster, aggregates and vinyl. Consider your geographic region, how you use your pool and its overall design elements. Paradise Pools recommends vinyl, fiberglass and gunite for Mississippi residents.

  1. You Need Updated Safety Features

Safety precautions are a great reason to remodel your pool. You may benefit from a pool fence or a pool safety net or perhaps even a new deck area. As important as it can be to have your swimming pool look beautiful, safety always comes first. Also make sure that you have the latest anti-entrapment equipment to prevent hair, limbs and body parts from being sucked toward the drain.
